Lighting adds excitement to the atmosphere with beams of colored light moving about the dance floor. Gene Simmons of KISS fame (maybe not the best guy to quote, huh Mom?) made a profound statement when he said, "People hear with their eyes." Can you imagine how different the atmosphere at a KISS or other pop concert would feel, if they didn't feature any lighting? It's the same thing at your venue. If the dance floor will be dark when the dancing begins, then adding a light show is the best way to jazz up the mood to insure your event's success.
